The remote community of Lagunilla is home to around 80 producers who have historically used ancestral farming techniques passed down through generations. Due to their seclusion from larger towns, these practices remained unchanged for many years, resulting in subpar quality and low profits. In 2021 the group began working with Caravela and their PECA Program, which provides education on harvesting, processing, fermentation, and drying practices. Since then they have been able to improve their coffee quality to grades A, AA, and AAA, while nearly quadrupling profits and bringing positive change to the community.
