The Shilanga AMCOS (Agricultural Marketing Cooperative Society) has operated in the Songwe region of Mbozi in southern Tanzania since 1993, and currently services 193 producers through the processing of washed coffees with a Penagos eco-pulper.
In a unique and innovative partnership with local export partners, nearby high schools have established coffee clubs where students are provided with instructors and seedlings that are tended on a communal plot. Students also receive seedlings to cultivate on their home farms, and are able to sell cherries to the cooperative once the coffee starts producing.
In the cup, look for notes of date, brown sugar, and blackberry compote.
